Cutting was a folklorist and high school English teacher in Johnson City, New York. Edith Cutting was born March 31, 1918 at Elizabethtown, New York. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1933, and from the New York State College for Teachers at Albany in 1938, where she received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Librarianship.
